Let the "pagbabalik" post a trip to a not-so-new place for me: Binondo, Manila.
(Just a backgrounder) I've been working in Binondo for the past 3 and a half years. In 2010, I joined an insurance company as a management trainee (this is my first job by the way), and still with the company as a technical assistant. With my 3 years of stay, I've tasted lots of Chinese food around the area (ito talaga yung kwento).
So I invited some of my college friends to have a food trip around my workplace. My goal is to take them to restaurants and food joints that are really masarap and affordable.
Our meeting place: Binondo Church. Janjan, Marge and I met Nadine who's already there. I told them to dress comfortably because there'll be lots of walking. By the way, Janjan is the assigned photographer so you won't see him much in this post.
Marge (Janjan's sometimes friend, sometimes stranger), me (in Giordano & Uniqlo basics)
and Nadine outside Binondo Church.
As the "tour guide", I advised them to buy bottled water na to save money and to ensure safety. Mahirap na uminom ng service water.
Our first stop is Wai Ying. It is a small restaurant along Benavidez St. We ordered their special congee, hakaw, shrimp sio mai and spareribs.
Good for 4. A little bit of everything.
Good thing Kester is not yet around kasi 4 pieces lang ang dimsum. Haha!
After our first stop, we walked around Ongpin and Escolta, and enjoyed the Chinatown "feel".
Warning: more photos ahead.
The famous Eng Bee Tin where you buy hopia and moon cake.
Some moon cakes outside Shoppers Mart.
Marge posing in front of the Shrine of San Loenzo Ruiz. It's a Catholic shrine
with Chinese incense. With touch of local colors talaga.
Lots of fruits everywhere.
This is not President's Tea House you see at the malls. It's grander and they serve
the best 2-way duck. Another trivia: they don't serve dimsum because it's not for alta daw. Haha
Calesas are a common thing here. Too bad we didn't try to ride one.
Me (with my Flying Dutchman Gaff rucksack) and Nadine walking along Ongpin St.
This is how Chinese lumpia is made at Po Heng.
May paandar lang sa plating. Haha
Group shot muna while waiting for Kester. Nakakapagod din maglakad.
FC at Carvajal Street.
Talagang a jeepney stopped while we're talking this photo.
I know my friends are burgis at heart. Sila pa ang nag-aya mag-Starbucks after the food trip.
I wasn't able to take photos at Ying Ying where we had our lunch, super gutom na ako that time.
So there. Reviving this blog. Kahit labo-labo muna ang posts. Haha.
